A collection of vintage mid-century ceramic table lighters in various novelty and traditional forms. The assortment features glazed porcelain and pottery bodies paired with metal lighter inserts, primarily employing thumb-lever ignition mechanisms. Included in the group is a stylized black cat figure with yellow eyes and a green bow tie, a white fluted vessel with a molded American eagle motif, and a rectangular souvenir lighter featuring a polychrome transfer print of Niagara Falls at Prospect Point. Other forms include lighters shaped like playing cards with spade, heart, and club motifs, as well as various urn and cylindrical vessels decorated with gold-tone filigree, fleur-de-lis, and floral patterns. One piece is finished in a dark blue glaze with white foliate designs. Several pieces bear identifying marks on the bases. A fluted vessel with a molded eagle features a printed black mark reading ITALY. A rectangular souvenir lighter and a cube-shaped playing card lighter both bear printed marks reading JAPAN. One cylindrical white vessel with gold-tone scrollwork is marked on the base with printed text reading HANDPAINTED above JAPAN. Another vessel with a green checkered floral pattern features a printed base mark reading JAPAN. A small tan paper label reading JAPAN is affixed to the base of one white vessel. Many of the metal lighter inserts are stamped with JAPAN on the side of the wick housing.
