A vintage mechanical cigarette or match dispenser constructed of brass, designed in the form of a nautical binnacle or ship capstan. The item features a tapering cylindrical body formed from sheet brass with a visible vertical seam along the back. A miniature ship helm wheel is mounted to the side of the main housing. The domed lid is detailed with an incised eight-pointed star pattern and a small central finial; it is attached to an internal central rod that allows the top to be raised for access to the interior. The base is composed of a circular metal plate with a cream-colored painted finish. No maker marks, brand names, patent dates, or manufacturing labels are visible on the exterior or underside of the piece. A white string and card tag are attached to the ship wheel.
