Fabulous Continental School (19th Century) watercolor portrait miniature of a woman in black bonnet, her shoulders draped in a fabric decorated with stars. Oval brass frame with convex glass.

This portrait was clearly executed by a very accomplished hand with stunning realism and phenomenal fine detail. The piece was opened once-- and only once-- in order to inspect & photograph. Although we were not able to decipher a signature/artists mark, there are clearly some markings (appear to be written with a quill pen) on the middle layer as well as what appears to be part of a mark (now only a 4 visible) on the back of the painting itself (see pictures).
