A vintage two-piece glazed earthenware novelty cookie jar modeled in the form of a rotund, jovial monk. The hand-painted figure features expressive facial details including rosy cheeks and a wide smile, clad in a traditional brown monk's habit secured with a white rope-style belt. The front of the vessel is decorated with the commandment "Thou shalt not steal!" applied in white relief lettering. The interior of both the lid and base is finished with a cream-colored glaze. The inside rim of the lid is incised with the characters "E R", while the flat, unglazed base shows scuffing and discoloration from shelf wear but is otherwise unmarked.

The cookie jar is in good vintage condition. Extensive crazing is present throughout the interior cream glaze. A visible chip is located on the fold of the monk's cowl, and a significant chip is present on the lower back edge of the base.
