The symbols represent natural and cultural elements significant to Native American tribes of the American Southwest, specifically the Hopi people.

These four outer designs represent crow feet, which are a key motif in the "Crow Mother" (Angwusnasomtaqa) baskets of the Hopi people. The Crow Mother katsina is a highly significant figure in the traditional culture and spirituality of the Hopi people, often considered the mother of all katsinam (spirits or immortal beings).

The lizard figures typically symbolize self-preservation, healing, and survival in the harsh desert environment. Their faces can be seen playfully poking out of the opposite side of each basket.

Central Cross/Star Motif: The central design, a common element in Native American art, is likely a variation of the Four Directions symbol or a representation of a flower or star. This powerful symbol is linked to the four cardinal directions, sacred mountains, seasons, and elements of nature, representing balance, harmony, and the cycles of life.
