Details:
Canadian astronauts signed commemorative cover bearing a Houston, Texas, October 10, 1984 postmark and cachet marking the sixth day of flight of a Space Shuttle mission. The cover is signed by five notable figures in the history of the Canadian Space Program: Marc Garneau, Chris Hadfield, Julie Payette (additionally signed on back), Dafydd Williams, and Michael McKay.
The cover brings together an exceptional group of Canadian astronauts spanning multiple generations of space exploration. Marc Garneau became the first Canadian in space aboard Space Shuttle Challenger in 1984. Chris Hadfield later became one of the world’s most recognizable astronauts through his service aboard the International Space Station and as commander of Expedition 35. Julie Payette flew on two Space Shuttle missions before later serving as Governor General of Canada, while Dafydd Williams participated in both Space Shuttle and International Space Station missions. Michael McKay served as a Canadian astronaut candidate and aerospace engineer associated with the Canadian space program.
Assembled on a single cover, the signatures represent many of the most recognizable names associated with Canada’s contributions to human spaceflight.
