Peter Lenzo Face Jug

Description

This striking stoneware face jug is a masterwork by celebrated ceramicist Peter Lenzo of Columbia, South Carolina. The piece features a metallic slip glaze, hand-molded facial features, a dramatic undulating brow, visible tile teeth, and distinctive alkaline-glazed eyes. A fascinating handwritten inscription on the back reads: "Martha said she liked the ridges. Lenzo 3-23-2004 Lots of Kids Here. Steven is working hard." It is signed "Lenzo" on the base. The jug measures approximately 10 3/4 in. H x 7 1/4 in. W x 6 3/4 in. D. Good condition.
