Description
This masterful 19th-century stipple engraving captures a tender romantic courting scene, bringing to life the narrative style of notable British Victorian painter and illustrator John Haynes Williams (1836–1908). The delicate plate was masterfully interpreted by French painter and copperplate engraver Léon Girardet (1856–1895). The piece is pencil signed in the margin by both the artist and the printmaker. The paper sheet measures approximately 26 1/8 in. H x 19 7/8 in. W, with expected age-appropriate paper toning, minor creasing, and minimal wear along the edges.
