Description
Fine 19th-century engraving captures a serene church interior scene of a children's choir gathered in front of a Gothic altarpiece, showcasing beautiful tonal variation. The work is after the composition by pioneering American painter and illustrator Jennie Augusta Brownscombe (1850–1936) and is pencil signed by both Brownscombe and prominent 19th-century American printmaker and painter James S. King (1852–1925), who also engraved the plate. Executed on vellum, the piece measures approximately 31 1/8 in. H x 22 in. W overall, with expected light bends to the vellum, minor discoloration, and wear along the edges consistent with its age.
