It was wheel?thrown. The body is reddish?brown earthenware with a coarse, solid fabric. The base is unglazed, exhibiting natural soil penetration and age?related wear. The vessel is covered overall with grey?green celadon glaze densely fractured with fine, natural crackle. Glaze thickness varies across the surface, with mottled soil?eroded encrustations in places, representing its original ancient glaze condition. Distinct wheel?throwing concentric striations are visible on the body. The spout, curved handle and two loop lugs were hand?modelled and luted on, with clear joining seams preserved, manifesting the rustic hand?crafting characteristics of folk kiln production.Form and FunctionIt features a dish?shaped mouth, constricted neck, full shoulders, rounded bulbous body tapering toward the base, and a ring foot. One side of the shoulder bears an elongated curved spout, opposite to which is an arched handle. Two symmetric bridge?shaped loop lugs are affixed to either side of the neck for cord suspension. Fine concentric turning lines run across the exterior, rendered in simple, rounded contours. Ewers of this dish?mouthed type served as practical wine or water vessels for daily use, and were also commonly interred as burial goods. They represent a widespread ceramic form in Jiangnan during the Five Dynasties?Northern Song era, documenting the craftsmanship and material culture of folk utilitarian wares of the period.ConditionThe ewer is largely intact, free of breaks, cracks, or large?area restorations. The glaze is original ancient glaze with no later over?glazing or modern artificial ageing. Minor antique chips and wear occur at the spout tip, handle terminals, loop lugs and ring?foot rim. Body, spout, handle and two lugs are fully preserved. The base is original and unmodified, without chiselled or reworked foot. Overall it retains its authentic excavated?transmitted condition.
