It features a dense ceramic body, fully covered in greyish?green celadon glaze. The glaze surface is covered with fine, natural crackle characteristic of ancient ceramic glaze. The glaze layer bears a mellow lustre, dotted with tiny soil?penetration specks formed through burial. Soil erosion and encrusted burial deposits remain within the ring?foot base with no later?period cleaning or alteration.The central interior is decorated with incised ornamentation: sharp tools cut through the glaze onto the biscuit body to render scrolling floral motifs in concise, fluent strokes, representing typical shallow?incised decorative technique of folk kilns. Wheel?throwing turning marks are visible on the vessel wall, faithfully preserving the hand?thrown ceramic?making features of the era.Form and FunctionThe dish has an open mouth, gently curved shallow wall and low ring foot. Double concentric bowstring lines divide the central medallion from the inner wall. Scrolling flowers are incised within the medallion in an expansive composition. The rim is thin, supported by a substantial, stable ring foot. Dishes of this type functioned as tableware and decorative objects for daily use in Jiangnan during the Five Dynasties?Northern Song era, and were also widely interred as burial goods.
