The Grateful Dead's New Year's shows were the highlight of the year for many of their faithful legions. Bill Graham would pull out all the stops for this annual event. The former Ice rink, Winterland, where band had performed since 1966, was the site of some of their finest performances over the years. The final Dead concert at Winterland, which fell on New Year's Eve 1978, is regarded as one of the Dead's finest performances of all at the historic venue. It was one of those nights where it all worked out seamlessly
