In 1980, Celestial Arts Publishing released the paperback book "The Dead" written by Hank Harrison. The colorful Flying Eyeball illustration on the front cover was designed by the late great Alton Kelley. This promo poster was distributed to retail stores when the book was published and released. At that time, there were not many books about the band in circulation, and this issue was the second volume of a Book of the Dead Hank Harrison wrote in 1973. Harrison was one of the founders of the Haight-Ashbury community and also the first manager for the band during their early days as The Warlocks.
