MARGARET TYRER NEEDLEWORK HOUSE SAMPLER, DATED 1832. English, early 19th Century. Polychrome thread on linen, including chenille and silk. Having a stylized border of grape clusters and vines surrounding a poetic verse with a pinked border over her signature, "Margaret Tyrer 1832," with a chain-link border, over a Georgian brick home flanked by foliage, a lioness, an ostrich, and two swimming swans below, with scattered stylized foliage throughout, in a black painted frame. Frame, 28.75"h. 24.5"w. Provenance: From the Collection of Peggy McClard & Randy Segotta (Weare, New Hampshire).
Condition
Toning and fading throughout, bleeding to some of the black threads, a repair to the canvas between the 6th and 7th line of text, and a pulled thread on the body of the lioness.
