Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.

A signed figural sketch by celebrated British illustrator Quentin Blake (b. 1932), executed in light, spontaneous pencil lines. The imaginative composition depicts a figure riding upon the back of a large bird while looking into the distance through a telescope, with hills, vegetation, and a circular sun suggested through a remarkably economical vocabulary of marks. Signed by Blake at the lower right.

The loose, exploratory quality of the drawing is closely associated with Blake's distinctive approach to illustration. Seemingly effortless lines establish movement, personality, and narrative with extraordinary economy, while deliberately exaggerated proportions lend the scene its characteristic sense of humor and fantasy. The unusual image of a traveler surveying the landscape from atop a bird gives the drawing an especially engaging storytelling quality.
