Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.

A signed figural drawing by celebrated American cartoonist, illustrator, and writer Jules Feiffer (1929-2025), depicting an elongated figure in a top hat and formal coat, holding a cane. Executed with spontaneous black linework and a striking application of blue watercolor, the figure assumes an exaggerated, almost theatrical pose, with extended limbs and sweeping coat tails creating a lively sense of movement. Signed and dated "59" below the composition, with an additional handwritten presentation inscription along the lower margin.

The expressive treatment of the human figure is closely associated with Feiffer's distinctive graphic language. Rather than relying upon conventional modeling, Feiffer used economical, seemingly spontaneous lines to communicate gesture, personality, and psychological character. Here, the combination of animated linework and concentrated blue coloring gives the figure an especially engaging stage-like presence.

Feiffer emerged as an important voice in postwar American cartooning during the 1950s, developing a career that encompassed newspaper and magazine illustration, theater, literature, film, and children's books. His influential work earned numerous distinctions, including the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1986. Dated 1959, the present drawing belongs to an important early period in his career and combines expressive figuration, color, signature, and personal inscription in an appealing work for collectors of American illustration, cartoon art, and postwar works on paper.
