Description
This sophisticated scientific instrument is a professional-grade transit theodolite manufactured by the renowned E.R. Watts & Son of London, dated June 24, 1925 (Serial No. 10570). Finished in a handsome black enamel over brass with nickel fittings, this set is unusually complete, featuring its original fitted mahogany case, striding level, declinatoire, multiple eyepieces (including a 90-degree version), sun filter, and trivet. The case exterior bears a brass plaque marked "NO. 11, C. S. M. & B., 16 VICTORIA ST. S.W.", likely a former agency or institutional identifier. As a seasoned collector, I find the inclusion of the 1925 patent "Compensated" spirit level and the original manufacturer labels particularly impressive. The instrument shows some finish wear and requires cleaning and minor mechanical adjustment to return to full functional glory. The mahogany case exhibits age-related scratches, a significant vertical split down the center of the lid, and is missing its original key. H 7.25", W 12.5", D 17.5". From the collection of Dale Beeks. Please see photos for condition.
