Victorian Lacquered-Brass Case-Mounted Simple Dissecting Microscope, circa 1860–1880. The portable scientific instrument features a rack-and-pinion focusing pillar, stacked magnifying lenses, specimen stage with spring clips, and an adjustable substage mirror, mountedon a mahogany storage case with brass hooks and red velvet lining beneath the lid. Accessories include a brass-handled magnifying glass, brass-mounted optical accessory, loose glass lens, and two period prepared entomological slidescontaining specimens identified in manuscript as “Cat Flea” and “Bed Bug.” Both slides bear printed labels for Jas. W. Queen & Co., 924 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. Microscope apparently unmarked. 3 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 9 1/4"
