Description
12 3/8 x 12 3/8 in (31.5 x 31.5 cm)
Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.
A Michael Jackson-signed Thriller LP, featuring a large autograph prominently executed across the white suit on the celebrated album cover. The dark signature contrasts strongly against the lighter portion of the portrait and is positioned without obscuring Jackson's face, providing excellent visual presentation. The accompanying vinyl bears the familiar Epic label identifying Michael Jackson, Thriller, QE 38112, together with tracks from the landmark album.
Released in 1982 and produced by Quincy Jones, Thriller became the defining album of Michael Jackson's career and one of the most culturally significant recordings in popular music history. Blending pop, R&B, rock, funk, and dance influences, the album produced enduring recordings including "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "Thriller," while its associated performances and music videos helped reshape global popular culture during the 1980s.
For autograph collectors, the close relationship between signer and medium gives this example particular appeal. Rather than an unrelated photograph or paper autograph, Jackson's signature appears directly on the cover of the album most closely identified with his career. The combination of the instantly recognizable portrait, original LP format, and unusually prominent autograph creates an especially effective display piece.
An iconic combination of artist, autograph, and album, with strong appeal to collectors of Michael Jackson, signed LPs, modern music history, and 20th-century popular culture.
