A pair of early 20th-century ignition coils, frequently referred to as buzz coils, of the type commonly utilized for early automotive engines or stationary power plants. Each unit is housed in a rectangular wooden casing characterized by finger-jointed construction at the corners. The top of each coil features a complex assembly of metal hardware, including threaded terminal posts, nuts, washers, and vibrating contact points. The sides of the dark-stained wooden boxes each display two circular recessed plugs. No maker's marks, brand names, or model numbers are legible on the exterior wood or metal surfaces of either unit.
