Classic two-gallon southern alkaline glaze stoneware storage jug features a rich, highly fluid olive-green alkaline glaze with natural runs and pooling. The sturdy vessel is fitted with applied strap handles accented by distinctive thumbprint impression at the terminal, a well-defined pouring lip, and a gracefully curving cylindrical form. A crisp, incised or stamped 2 denotes its fluid capacity. It measures approximately 13 1/2 in. H x 7 in. in diameter overall, with evident historical repairs and painted touch-up restoration work to the upper lip and handle consistent with age.
