Description
Japanese Edo-period three-scroll hanging set attributed to Kano Tansetsu Morisada (1655–1714), comprising a central depiction of Jurojin accompanied by a deer, flanked by two compositions depicting cranes among pine and bamboo. Executed in ink and color on silk, each bearing the signature ????? (Tansetsu zu) and a red artist’s seal, and mounted as hanging scrolls with patterned silk brocade borders. Accompanied by an inscribed wooden storage box. Kano Tansetsu, the second son of Kano Tanyu, was an important painter of the Edo Kano school, with documented works including depictions of Jurojin and cranes. Late 17th to early 18th century, if the attribution is correct. One scroll measures approximately 72 in. H x 17 1/2 in. W. Condition commensurate with age, including toning, staining, creasing, wear, losses, and deterioration to the mounts; storage box exhibits surface wear.
