This Fiat is no ordinary production model but a genuine pre-production prototype, retaining a number of unique design and mechanical features that never reached series production. Built by Fiat as part of the development process, it survives today in remarkable time-warp condition. Details such as the prototype-specification wiring loom, unique lower dashboard trim and non-production gear knob clearly distinguish it from standard cars. No radio was ever fitted, although the original wiring harness remains in place, while the car still retains its original factory tyres. Unusually, it was also specified with both air conditioning and an electric sunroof.
It is believed that the car remained in the ownership of Pininfarina until 2002, forming part of the company's prestigious ‘Pininfarina Experience Centre’ collection before being sold to an employee. Since 2015 it has resided in a private collection, where it has been carefully preserved. Despite now being 31 years old, the car still presents, feels and even smells remarkably close to new.
To ensure continued mechanical integrity, a number of years ago the car benefitted from a comprehensive service in Italy, including replacement of all fluids and auxiliary belts, front and rear brake pads, timing belt and tensioners, fuel filter and numerous other preventative maintenance items.
Accompanying the car is an impressive history file comprising its original book pack, factory sales literature, period brochures and a copy of Auto Italia magazine in which the car was featured. The car gained significant recognition within the Fiat enthusiast community following its appearance in the 2017 edition of Auto Italia, further cementing its status as an exceptionally rare and historically important survivor.
Offered in highly original condition and with outstanding provenance, this unique prototype represents a virtually unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a significant piece of Fiat and Pininfarina history. As one of the very few surviving development cars to have escaped into private ownership, it is a compelling proposition for serious collectors and marque enthusiasts alike.
Condition Report:
The Fiat has a current MOT attributed to the chassis number aswell as all import documentation, if the new owner decided to register the vehicle it should be very simple.
