19th Century: Sailor Wool Work LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE 19TH Century Sailor Woolwork worked in wool and silk thread. There are 11 individual sailing vessels amongst a harbor scene stretching two sides of frame. The largest takes up to 12" X 17" of the picture with a full sail three-masted ship flying Union Jack. The sails are padded. The upper right corner has a wool thread ship in the center with a series of crossed flags and crown all worked in silk. Walnut frame in great condition but frame liner edge is worn. Multiple areas of loose stitches in lower left corner but no loss and some loose stitches in ocean waves. Small masted ship on right side has loose rigging and pulled thread. Minor loss in center bottom edge. Sight: 22 x 30 in. (55.9 x 76.2 cm.), Frame: 30 x 38 in. (76.2 x 96.5 cm.)
