Vivian Springford (American, 1913-2003) was a painter associated with Color Field abstraction. Influenced in the 1950s by Chinese calligraphy, she developed a practice centered on staining and fluid mark-making. She exhibited regularly in the postwar New York art scene before withdrawing from public view later in life. This untitled ink work from 1962 reflects her engagement with gestural mark-making and wash techniques. Signed in ink, lower right recto. Framed; custom frame included (framed size 29 x 53").
