In our opinion, this coin ranks as the best struck-up coin of the date. PCGS have noted that it had been cleaned, and hence denied it a place in their census, where it would certainly have achieved an AU58 grade. Currently, the highest graded 1855 Half Sovereign in the PCGS Register is an AU50, which is a coin we sold a few years ago. Although this coin has been cleaned and has some obverse field marks and light abrasions, it still ranks in the top few 1855 Half Sovereigns known.
