Description
Beautifully crafted solid cherry Queen Anne dining table by Tom Seely Furniture, made in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and individually signed and dated by craftsman Kenny Bly on November 30, 1999.
The table reflects Tom Seely Furniture's longstanding tradition of creating finely made American furniture inspired by historic designs. Tom Seely began as an antiques dealer and restorer before developing a respected line of "Antique Reproductions and Classics," the name appearing in the factory mark on this table.
This example was produced during an especially interesting period in the company's history. Gat Caperton acquired Tom Seely Furniture in 1996 and initially continued producing the established Tom Seely designs under the historic name before the company evolved into what became Gat Creek. This table, dating to 1999, comes from that early transitional period.
Adding to its provenance is the handwritten signature of Kenny Bly. Bly was a longtime Tom Seely craftsman and table maker whose work with the company is documented in period furniture-industry reporting. Tom Seely maintained a tradition of having the individual artisan sign and date the furniture he produced, making the inscription an integral record of this table's manufacture.
Crafted in warm solid cherry, the table features a classic Queen Anne silhouette with an elegant rectangular top and graceful cabriole legs. Four 12-inch extension leaves allow the table to expand dramatically for larger gatherings-from approximately 68 inches in its standard configuration to an impressive 116 inches when fully extended.
The restrained historic design and beautifully aged cherry make this a versatile piece for traditional, Colonial Revival, American heritage, or collected interiors. Its generous extended size makes it especially well suited for a substantial dining room while retaining a graceful profile when the leaves are removed.
The underside retains the original circular Tom Seely Furniture "Antique Reproductions and Classics" factory mark along with Kenny Bly's handwritten signature and the date 11-30-99.
A distinctive piece of late-20th-century American furniture with documented maker, craftsman, date, and West Virginia manufacturing provenance.
