Oil on canvas by listed American artist Virginia Goldberg (Ohio/N.Y. .1940's. Signed on verso. She was a painter, illustrator and art educator. In addition she is a listed artist , was a member of The American Artists' Professional League and is referenced in "Who Was Who In American Art". Although several of her oils have surfaced over the last year, she does not appear to have been very prolific. This nude is an outstanding example of social realism, a school of art referring to artists who draw attention to the day to day conditions of the working classes and the poor and who are critical of the social structures that encourage these conditions. Slightly impressionistic, it is finely drawn and painted with an extremely pleasing palette. Note the warm skin tones and the red bandana against a simple, textured background. Excellent condition.
