Length:153cm(60.24in)Width:67.3cm(26.50in)This colored silk vertical scroll Ancient Tree by Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining) retains original court brocade mounting with hardwood roller ends. On the upper green sprinkled?gold title panel sits large imperial calligraphy “Eternal Spring on Silk”, stamped with Qianlong imperial seals. Painted on aged yellow silk, the work adopts a blend of Chinese and Western painting techniques to depict a robust ancient tree. The gnarled thick trunk bears lifelike bark texture, luxuriant foliage, tangled roots growing among slope rocks, with ganoderma fungi at the root. A winding stream and lightly washed distant hills appear nearby. Multiple imperial poetic inscriptions and numerous Qing?palace collection seals surround the painting. Merging Western realistic perspective and traditional Chinese meticulous brushwork, the painting features delicate coloring and rich layers. The aged silk and elegant solemn mounting make it a representative work of Qing court academy painting.
