Handsome Ernest Thompson Southwestern-style armchair featuring the distinctive carved detailing and substantial craftsmanship associated with the New Mexico furniture maker.
The tall architectural back is especially striking, with a carved fan or sunburst crest, central pierced geometric panel, and a pair of spiral-carved columns. Stepped geometric details along the rails and posts further emphasize the chair's Spanish Colonial and Southwestern influence.
The solid wood frame has a softly aged, pale natural finish that allows the grain and hand-carved details to remain visible. Broad shaped arms and substantial construction give the chair an impressive presence without appearing overly heavy.
The upholstered seat is finished in a small-scale Southwestern geometric textile in muted red, cream and brown tones, complementing the rustic character of the frame.
A wonderful statement chair for a Southwestern, Santa Fe, Spanish Colonial, rustic or Western interior. Particularly appropriate beside a fireplace, in an entry, study, bedroom or as an occasional chair.
