Feb. 7 Luxury Designer Fashion Auction has the brands you want

NEW YORK – On Wednesday, February 7, starting at 6 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will hold a sale titled Luxury Designer Fashion Auction, boasting almost 550 lots of handbags, jackets, dresses, belts, shoes, jewelry, and more. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

First among the highlights is a Louis Vuitton Panema GM Damier Ebene shoulder bag, having golden finishes and made in 2004. The lot notes helpfully state that ‘It has a large front pocket and two small internal pockets. It has been used very little and has no scratches. However, the shoulder strap has a superficial cut that does not compromise its use. The shoulder strap is equally solid.’ The unisex bag is estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

Another prize is a Christian Dior Galliano-era exotic leather jacket with lace-up corset details, estimated at $4,600-$4,800. It dates to 2002, is made from lizard skin, and, according to the lot notes, is in ‘Great condition,’ with ‘almost no wear.’

Completing the highlights in fine style is a Chanel Timeless Jumbo handbag in blue leather, which has never been worn and is estimated at $8,000-$10,000.

Strong results for single-owner perfume bottle collection at Helmuth Stone

SARASOTA, Fla. — Helmuth Stone Gallery held back-to-back auctions on November 28 and November 29, each with impressive results in perfume bottles and works of art from around the world. Complete results are available at LiveAuctioneers.

Donated to support roof repairs at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast, Florida, the single-owner perfume bottle was the focus in the first session. The top lot was a circa-1956 Christian Dior ‘Diorissimo’ Baccarat perfume bottle with metal gold roses on the top. Strong interest from LiveAuctioneers bidders drove the action, but the ultimate winner was on the floor at the gallery. The Dior bottle hammered for $4,750, or $5,937 with buyer’s premium.

Following closely was a Guerlain Djedi perfume bottle with its original box. Estimated at $200-$400, it sold for $3,500 ($4,375 with buyer’s premium).

Another standout was this Czech blue opaque glass perfume bottle with the stopper featuring a woman riding a leaping goat. It hammered for $1,500 ($1,875 with buyer’s premium) to a LiveAuctioneers bidder.

The second session was dominated by what was likely a single-owner collection of Tibetan thangkas, or religious paintings on silk. The leading lot was formerly in the collection of Uruguayan-born Francis Luis Mora (1874-1940), a figural painter. Described as “antique” and signed by the artist, the thangka sold for an amazing $17,000 ($21,250 with buyer’s premium).

DANIA BEACH, Fla – Auction house Akiba Galleries is providing a glimpse into the home of one of the world’s most famous fashion photographers. The Iconic Collection of Tyen auction will take place on Tuesday, August 29 with bidding available via LiveAuctioneers.

In the world of fashion and photography, the name ‘Tyen’ scarcely needs an introduction. He has worked for more than 30 years with the House of Dior to create some of its most enduring images and products. He began his career doing stage makeup for the Paris Opéra, but was discovered by the magazine world, where he created looks for photographers such as Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Bill King.

Tyen’s Addison Mizner-designed Palm Beach home was packed with an array of art, furniture, and artifacts from many cultures and periods. His creative mind and artistic sensibility were evident throughout the interior, as he curated a captivating blend of styles that reflected his diverse interests and inspirations. This auction will feature the pieces in the Gothic and Renaissance style that added a touch of grandeur and historic charm to Tyen’s home plus objects that underline his interest in religious art and artifacts from various faiths.

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – On Tuesday, August 29, Akiba Galleries will present a sale titled Iconic Collection of Tyen. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers. The 714-lot auction features pieces from the Addison Mizner-designed Palm Beach, Florida home of Tyen, a makeup artist and photographer who is a god within the realm of high fashion.

Tyen has collaborated with Versace, Valentino and Issey Miyake, but the Vietnamese-born Frenchman is best known for his work with the house of Christian Dior. From 1980 to 2014, Tyen helped Dior shape its public image.

Do you remember the Dior ad with the woman in the red hat, sporting lush red lipstick and holding the lipstick tube against her shoulder? Tyen made it. How about the ad for Dior’s Hypnotic Poison perfume that showed Monica Bellucci with a boa constrictor draped over her bare shoulders and chest? Also Tyen.

But he produced his most notorious visual in the service of Dior Svelte, a cellulite cream. The final shot, which was the result of four days’ toil, shows a model in profile, clad only in a length of gauzy rose-red fabric. Her face is deliberately omitted in favor of focusing on her smooth, slim, unpitted thighs. This impossible-to-achieve image of beauty generated rage – particularly in Canada, where women reportedly tore down posters for the product – but it generated sales as well. In its first year on the market, Dior Svelte rung up $14 million, wholesale.

Tyen’s collection, as it appears in the August 29 Akiba sale, reflects an individual with wide-ranging interests and an eye for killer stuff. The sale lineup features French Gothic Revival furniture, Christian religious artifacts, Renaissance furniture, Chinese antiquities, and quirky collectibles. Choice pieces include a mid-century Murano glass lamp in the shape of a mushroom, sporting a shade of purple that would make for a worthy Dior lipstick, estimated at $200-$2,000; a visually striking Gothic Revival religious bronze cathedral box, estimated at $500-$5,000; five Chinese porcelain wall plaques in wooden frames, estimated at $200-$2,000; and a huge French centerpiece in gilt bronze and porcelain, estimated at $500-$5,000.
