Description: 3 Copies of 10 letters written between January 12, 1862 and August 3, 1864, by James "Newt" Martin (1832-1889) to his parents and sister. The letters describe camp life and various events that occurred during the Civil War. Newt Martin was an officer in Kershaw's brigade, and later gained prominence as a textile mill owner, civic leader, and bank president in Newberry, SC. The letters are copied in purple ink with a handwritten title page. Spiral bound with heavy cardstock boards. Interior may have minor foxing/toning. Boards may be lightly worn/soiled. Full refund if not satisfied.
