Description
This neo-Renaissance style chalice is entirely in gilt silver with embossed decoration, chased in matte and line. Circular base is swollen, underlined by a large frieze of sawtooth and chiselled on the edge of rosettes and smooth bands. The foot terrace is adorned with radiant Crosses and vegetal symbols of the Eucharist.The stem, embellished with two striated rings and two beaded collars bears an ovoid knot, it is decorated with ears of wheat, bunches of grapes, reeds and underlined in its upper part with a frieze of water leaves.The flared and gilded cup is enclosed in an openwork and cut-out false cup, decorated with ears of wheat, bunches of grapes, water leaves and acanthus leaf petals.950/1000 silver, Coq 1803-1809 Paris hallmarks, guarantee hallmarks and goldsmith hallmarks are located on each chalice element.——————————-Master Goldsmith: Jean-François Mézard, very active in the early 19th century in the field of religious goldsmithing.A number of works are cited in the 19th-20th century Liturgical Arts dictionary - see page 329 with a photo of its hallmarkHeight: 29.5 cmFoot: 14.5 cmWeight: 569 gJoint:A paten in gilded silver decorated with the Easter lamb with a banner surrounded by water leaves.
