Description
A well used old Telefolmin drum – Oksapmin language group, Star mountains, Sandaun province, Papua new Guinea. Of classical form, the elongated and narrow hour-glass shaped drum with well-patinated surface and no handle, the top with intact tympanum, the bottom with meandering design in red and white. Dark patina of extensive age and useDrums of this type are found throughout the region and are usually ascribed to the Telefomin people. Schuurkampf (Schuurkampf, 1995) asserts that these drums were primarily made in the village of Siktamin by the Atbalmin and traded throughout the area. Acquired by Marc Seidler in the Telefolmin area in the 1980s. The Drum measures 36 inches tall x 4.25 inches wide. The Drum head has been damaged and is worn through.

fair, well handled and worn, stress fracture, now stable.
