The Dining Chair DCW was created in 1945 while Charles Eames was leading the research department of the Molded Plywood Division of the Evans Product Company. During the Second World War, several orders of the US military led to the development and refinement of methods of molded plywood in three dimensions. After the war, the Eames couple converted their gathered experience in many design classics that are still famous and being reproduced nowadays.

The present four chairs are 73 cm high and measure 48 x 54 cm. They are in excellent, original condition with minimal age and wear.

Charles (1907-1978) & Ray Eames (1912-1988)

Charles Eames (1907-1978) studied at the Washington University in St. Louis and opened his first architecture office in 1930. In 1940, he won the ‘Organic Design in Home Furnishings’-Competition of the MOMA in New York and was named head of the Industrial Design Department of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the same year. He married his second wife Ray (1912-1988) in 1941 and they became one of the most known and popular design couples of the 20th Century. Their designs for Hermann Miller, for whom they designed complete product lines, were new, unusual and most of them are design milestones.
