Tekke Chuval, Turkmenistan circa 1850, 2ft. 2in. x 3ft. 3in. 66 x 99 cm
Condition: fair, good pile, excellent color, loss to the inner minor on the sides, areas of wear and small holes, slits at top and bottom on the right side

Knot type: Asymmetrical, open right. Wool, two ply. hor: sq. inch: 12 240 vert: 20
Warp: Wool, ivory, natural, z2s. No warp depression. Made inverted.
Weft: Wool, light brown, natural. Lightly z spun. Each weft shoot consists of two strands. Two shoots alternating.
Sides: Original not extant.
Ends: Original not extant.
Colors: (6) Red, light red, medium blue, light blue, ivory, medium brown.
Design: On a red field are sixteen chuval guls. The guls are quartered and contain blue kotchak crosses at their center. These guls centers are not typical of Tekke work and are usually found on Salor, Saryk and Ersari work. There are typical, well articulated, chemche minor guls. The main border consists of multi colored boxes, each containing a very stylized flower device. On either side are minor borders consisting of small ivory boxes containing a red star alternating with red boxes containing a red or blue x. Between all the borders are barber pole guard stripes. The lower elem contains a row of polychrome plant devices consisting of small “plants†topped with an ashik alternating with simple large “plant†forms with a pair of serrated arms at
the top.
Condition: Fair, good pile, excellent color. Loss to the inner minor on the sides. Areas of wear and small holes. Slits at top and bottom on the right side.
