Saryk Chuval, Turkmenistan 2nd quarter 19th cent., 2ft. 7in. x 3ft. 9in. 79 x 114 cm
Condition: areas of wear through the center and repiling in the center, slight loss to top,
bottom and sides, excellent color, good pile

Knot type: Symmetrical hor: sq. inch: 10 170 vert: 17
Warp: Wool, ivory to gray. No depression.
Sides: Original not extant.
Ends: Original not extant.
Colors: (7) Liver red, white (cotton), medium blue, green, apricot, medium brown, yellow.
Design: On a liver red field are nine large chuval guls in a three by three layout. The guls are quartered done in all colors except yellow. There are chemche minor guls, also done in all colors except yellow. The main borders contain box and kotchak design with triangle mosaic guard strips. The lower elem contains diagonal rows of typical Saryk flowers in blue and green with animal heads in white (cotton) and yellow. The upper elem contains a single row of Saryk flowers in alternating blue and green, The yellow animal heads in the lower elem are replaced by apricot colored ones in the top.
