Description
Taino People, Classic Period (c.1000-1500 AD). Pottery Communal Cohoba Inhaling Vessel. Very similar to the wooden and stone vessels with incurvate sides. Bird head Adorno, large symbolic iconographs surround shoulders with snuffing port representing tail. Probably used communally as its large "V" capacity suggests. Birds were important spiritual messengers and guides as their repeated imagery on cohoba ceremonial reliquary implies. Length: 5 1/2".
