Established in Pittsburgh in 1972, Concept Art Gallery is a hybrid auction house and retail art gallery. The auction house conducts regular live auctions of interesting and valuable property, with specialties in Modern and Contemporary Art and Design, Antiques, Fine Art, Jewelry, Books, as well as art relating to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. Consignments are accepted on a rolling basis, which allows Concept to offer auction lots that cover a wide range of price points, styles and categories. Bidders can participate in-house, on the telephone, via absentee bid or in real-time online through LiveAuctioneers. Gallery co-owners Sam Berkovitz and Alison Brand Oehler are both licensed auctioneers and certified members of the Appraisers Association of America. Together they have appraised countless artworks and collections for individuals, corporations and estates. Additionally, they provide art consulting to local collectors, foundations and museums, including: The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Warhol Museum, The Westmoreland Museum of Art and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art. The retail wing of the gallery is proud to represent and exhibit many of the region's most established artists, such as Vanessa German and Douglas Cooper, along with artists of national and international reputation. Concept�€™s inventory carries contemporary graphics by artists including Wolf Kahn, Glenn Ligon, Carol Summers, Joan Mitchell, Sam Francis, Walasse Ting, Alex Katz, Ray Parker, Gordon Mortensen and many others. Concept Gallery also focuses on contemporary painting and historic and industrial images of Pittsburgh, including the work of George Hetzel, Roy Hilton, Aaron Gorson, Samuel Rosenberg, and Henry Koerner. The work of regional photographers Luke Swank, Clyde Hare, Mark Perrott, Selden Davis, and Ross Altwater is another important specialty for the gallery. Concept Art Gallery offers in-house insured archival framing services. The framing staff collectively share over 50 years of experience handling and framing fine art. The frame shop routinely frames a variety of art pieces for collectors and museums in the region. Concept also has a professional art handling team on staff to transport, install and hang artwork.
