JMC Auctions is an extension of John Chaski and John Chaski Antiques, designed to offer flexible solutions for liquidating personal property owned by collectors, estates, and individuals. Our claim to fame is the introduction of upfront payments, or “guarantees” to our local auction marketplace. Commonplace in cases of multiple auction companies competing for a priceless collection of paintings or fine antiques, here’s how it works: you have a collection or an estate that you want to sell, but either you don’t want to wait until after the auction to get paid, or you want to find an auctioneer who isn’t just promising big prices just to get the contract and then mailing you a disappointing settlement check after the items are sold. JMC Auctions will pay you up front for your items based on their potential value at auction, but unlike selling your items to a dealer, you are not giving away the upside that an auction offers. After the items sell, JMC Auctions retains the proceeds up to the amount paid up front, and then you get the rest less a previously agreed upon commission rate. Thus you are “guaranteed”, in fact you have already received, a satisfactory amount of money up front for your valuable property, without having to worry or bear the risk of items under-selling. Obviously we are not motivated to offer this plan to every consignor, but in the case of extremely valuable items or special circumstances, it is something we do not hesitate to offer. In the business of selling antiques and fine art through auction, mistakes on the behalf of your trusted broker can be extremely costly. Selling at auction does present an inevitable element of risk, but we work hard to mitigate that risk through a variety of strategies. Our primary asset is a knowledge of a wide variety of antiques and collectibles accumulated through first hand experience as a dealer and auction coordinator over the past fifteen years. A vast knowledge is helpful, but without the ability to recognize when an object is beyond one’s personal experience is also crucial. The network of professionals I have developed as a dealer ensure that if such an item presents itself, we will be able to find an expert to evaluate it. Paired with a knowledge of the merchandise, our understanding of the evolving marketplace for antiques and fine art (in particular online), guides our strategy in tailoring a custom strategy for your property. Many items require exposure to an international audience, which can only be achieved by cataloging, photographing, and offering your items via multiple online bidding platforms – a service that no other auctioneer on the Delmarva Peninsula offers. By focusing our resources on reaching the largest and most relevant customers online, we are able to minimize our overhead and offer some of the most reasonable commission rates anywhere. We offer a wide variety of services: from marketing a valuable collection of general or specialized antiques or fine art, to a broom-swept clean-out of household goods. Below please find a list of just some of the items we have had success selling in the past: Asian Antiques including Porcelain, Metalware, Paintings, Carvings, etc. American and European Paintings and Prints Glass and Ceramics ranging from Ancient Chinese Porcelain to Contemporary Studio Pottery American and European Period Furniture and Related Accessories Folk art – especially American Modern Collectibles including sports memorabilia, fine china, etc. Fine Jewelry, Coins, Bullion, and Sterling Silver (Our connections as a dealer with the highest paying scrap buyers on the East Coast guarantee you will yield more cash than you can get from any “Cash for Gold” store or pawnbroker.
