The November 29 auction will be held in two sessions: American Furniture and Decorations at 10am and American Art at 2pm. Both sessions will offer property from the Collection of Edwardt Eberstadt & Sons and the estate of noted collector Glen S. Foster. The morning session showcases furniture and decorations from the colonial period through the Federal and Classical styles to the mid-19th century. Silver, ceramics, mirrors, Chinese Export porcelain, American Indian art, and rugs will also be offered, as well as paintings and historical, decorative and Audubon prints. Highlights include an assembled pair of rare New York ormolu mounted mahogany card tables attributed to Charles Honore Lannuier, a New York Classical mahogany pier table, a Connecticut Queen Anne tripod stand with drawer and an undisturbed surface, formerly in the collection of Frederick K. and Margaret R. Barbour; a pair of Federal mahogany side chairs attributed to John Carlile & Sons; a Classical mahogany fold-over card table from Boston, circa 1825; an E. Howard & Co. rosewood banjo clock; and a Simon Willard painted, gilt, stenciled and eglomise banjo clock. The afternoon session of American Art showcases works by important American artists, including George Henry Durrie, James Edward Buttersworth (Property from the Estate of Glen S. Foster) and Frederic Remington, in addition to William C. A. Frerichs, Bruce Crane, Eric Sloane, John La Farge, Frederic Samuel Dellenbaugh, Walter Koeniger, Reginald Marsh, Dorothy Eaton, and David Burliuk, as well as sculpture by Anna Vaughn, Hyatt Huntington, and Harriet Whitney Frishmuth. Property from the Collection of Edward Eberstadt & Sons, for 75 years one of the leading firms in Western Americana, books, manuscripts and fine art, includes paintings by such artists as Herman Herzog, Jack Van Ryder, Cleveland Salter Rockwell, William Louis Sonntag, John (Jack) Frost, Charles Wimar and William Keith, among others.
