DuMouchelles’ October 8th sale includes fine pieces from the notable estates of Dr. Ali Esfahani, Dr. James Letson, and others from Metro Detroit and the continental United States. Dr. Esfahani was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1932 and graduated from the Tehran University Medical School in 1955. Many of the rugs are featured in today’s sale (lots 1117-1158). The sale also includes many wonderful prints from American artists, such as Martin Lewis (lot 1000) and Rockwell Kent (lot 2). Other notable pieces from this month include paintings from Lajos Kassak (lots 1009-1010), Douglas Arthur Teed (lot 1015), a newly uncovered work from Franke Earle Schoonover (lot 1002), Alexander Calder (lot 1012), and Jean Dubuffet (lots 1023-1024). Other fresh-to-market pieces include several monumental bronze garden sculptures (lots 1041-1047), plaques from the historic Detroit Fisher Building (lots 1055-1056), estate jewelry (lots 1096-1107), an eccentric Meerschaum pipe (lot 1108), porcelain from Royal Dux (lots 1190-1193), a set of Asian ceramics (lots 1216-1238), Peter Max (lots 1328-1329), and much more.
