333 Estate and Fine Art Auction

Estate and Fine Art Division of Rago Art and Auction Center presents 800 lots of outstanding work of silver, rugs, 18th and 19th c. English and American furniture, and art. Several regional artists are highlighted, as well as prints from two significant American private collections: Associated American Artists prints from the Estate of AA co-founder Maurice Liederman with desirable works by Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Raphael Soyer and John Stewart Curry. A remarkable group of prints from a Hawaiian collector includes works by artists associated with the print school at the Honolulu Academy of Art in the 1930s-1940s. Also offered are woodblock prints by Lilian Mau Miller, etchings and lithographs by Charles Bartlett, Horatio Nelson Poole and John Melville Kelly and more than a dozen lots by 20th c. Japanese printmakers including Kiyoshi Saito. The works are balanced with an array of European genre pieces and several American painters are featured, such as Hermann Herzog and George Howland. A fine selection of American and Continental period furniture includes a Georgian linen press, an American Tiger Maple card table, an English tall case clock and a unique harpsichord as well as Arts and Crafts and 20th century modern pieces. A highlight of the auction is a strong selection of garden objects that include a pair of monumental bronze Meiji lanterns from a local estate, 19th c. marble lions, classical busts and architectural lighting by Frank Furness of Phila. Many fine pieces of silver at the auction include Tiffany, Georg Jensen, Walter Meyer, Gorham, and Shreve & Co. along with a good selection of porcelain and pottery featuring Rookwood, Fulper, Moorcroft, Wedgwood, Staffordshire and a dozen pieces of Majolica with a very unusual signed Royal Worcester exhibition urn, c. 1886, "Triumph of Galatea," painted by Josiah Rushton. Over 100 lots of fine estate jewelry are offered including LaPaglia, Tiffany & Co., Jensen and Walter Meyer. For more information call 609-397-9374 or email info@ragoarts.com.
