Tribal Art
The March Tribal Art Online sale at Skinner in Marlborough has a wide variety of artifacts from Native cultures from around the world, including Native American, Pre-Columbian, Inuit, and Eskimo, African, and Pacific Island tribal peoples. The sale features a couple of prominent collections, including mostly Hawaiian pre-contact artifacts from the Leo and Lillian Fortess collection from Hawaii. We have a collection of Walker Evans photographs of African art, and Edward S. Curtis photogravures of Native people, from a collection in Virginia. Also in the sale is a group of Naga headhunting ornaments from a Boston collection. There is also a small collection of Indonesian artifacts, collected in-situ in the early 1980s, from a San Francisco collection. We will also have a large collection of Southwest pottery, both historic and contemporary, together with a group of Navajo textiles and silver and turquoise jewelry.
