Prehistoric and Historic Artifact Auction
What a fine auction this turned out to be. Anchored by the Dr. John Mountjoy collection, this auction contains many fine Axes, Celts and Northwest Coast Pestles (some of the finest). A superb 21 4/5" Ring Pestle pictured in Charlie "Modoc" Smith's collection over 60 years ago is included as well as a very fine 9.5 lb Axe John acquired from Mitch Lewis. Several consignors (including Dean Mesnard) contributed a beautiful array of flint. Over 100 fine points with independent COAs from the best authenticators. Most are Rogers and Davis COAs. A 4 1/2" Rogers papered Ohio Clovis and a 3 3/4" Clovis made of spectacular Ft. Payne are just 2 of the many Paleo points in this sale. A 6" Thebes and a group of Lost Lakes can be found. You'll fine Dr. Jason Ross' fine pottery collection scattered throughout the sale. Many are frog and fish effigies. There is a Corngod Rim Effigy Bowl (pictured in Roy's Quapaw Book) included. Last, but certainly not least, a group of Bannerstones from the Ed Harvey collection highlight this sale. His 7" Doublenotched Wing Bannerstone is being sold. A Dr. Bunch piece, it is well pictured in CSAJ and Prehistoric American (comes with Tom Davis COA). Several of Ed's fine Hardstone Bannerstones will be offered as well. A great auction! Literally, something for everyone.
