JULY FINE ASIAN WORKS OF ART ONLINE
Norman Rymer Mackintosh was born in 1878 in Tokyo, Japan. From 1902 to 1932, he served in the Chinese Customs. After 1932, the Yingkou Customs Office where he worked was administered by the Manchukuo, and he was transferred to Shanghai as a special agent until 1934, when he returned from Shanghai.
Norman Rymer Mackintosh was born in Asia, he has had a keen interest in Asian art since he was a child. During his stay in China, Shaw purchased and collected a great number of Chinese artworks. Especially when he was in Manchuria, he bought a large number of artworks from the Continental Company, a Japanese company. During his mission in Shanghai, he could not carry these collections with him, so he arranged his friends in Yingkou to help him ship the collections during his life in Northeast China out of Yingkou Customs, and then through the United States Lines to the United States and then back to Britain. To be kept by his family.
After Shaw's death, his collection was preserved by his later generations. Receipts, price tags and tax proof from Yingkou Customs at the time of purchase of his collectibles at the Continental Company.
This auction is a collection of works of art from Tai Fung & Associates by Shaw, N.R.M. The descendants of Shaw, N.R.M., provide and tell us many stories of his time living in China.
