Lyon & Turnbull is delighted to present the third edition of our themed auction, Islamic & Indian Art. The Islamic Art section features interesting early manuscript pages and fine examples of early glass and metalwork, a striking and intact Timurid pottery dish with provenance going back to the early 20th century (Lot 20), a superb Safavid illustrated folio from the Shahnameh (Lot 21), as well as a great selection of Qajar works of Art and later Middle Eastern works of art. The highlight of the Ottoman art section is an exceptionally rare Iznik tile from the Cinili Hamam in Istanbul dated to circa 1540, with an historical provenance going back to 1905 (Lot 43). The Indian art section features an exciting array of good quality works of art and miniatures. Highlights include an impressive portrait of Prince Murad Mirza (Lot 71) a superb painting of Maharana Ari Singh Hunting Wild Boar by the Master Artist Shiva (Lot 91), an early painting attributed to Chokha (Lot 94), a painting of Jaijaram JI and his devotees (Lot 99), a striking early Pahari portrait of Raja Anand Dev of Bahu (Lot 115) and a relic to Gandhi’s life, in the form of newly discovered original paintings, produced not long after his death to form a poster (147) in circa 1948.
