Around 440 items will be auctioned in our design auction on 14 October. The range covers the entire 20th century, but also features exciting contemporary designs.
One of the eye-catchers of the auction is Bernard Rancillac's bright red lacquered Elephant Chair, pure pop art. The design dates from the mid-1960s. Michel Roudillon reissued the spectacular seating sculpture in 1985. Our example belongs to this second edition and is numbered 17/100.
Bauhaus enthusiasts will be delighted by Josef Hartwig's chess set XVI (1924), which is preserved in its original box. Inspired by Bauhaus ideas, Jindrich Halabala created well-designed steel furniture for UP-Werke. We are offering the H-80 cantilever chair with a red iron yarn cover with a starting price of EUR1,600.
In addition to the strong presence of designs from the sixties and seventies, the eighties are also represented with exciting objects. Herman Waldenburg's unique Schleudersitz (1984/85) stands out here.
Ingo Maurer is prominently represented with the light paper ceiling lamp Oh Mei Ma - silver (1993) and the ceiling lamp Niju-Ichi from the Uchiwa series from the 1970s, consisting of 32 compartments, so that this floating sculpture creates a wonderfully subdued light.
Scandinavian design is represented by Alvar Aalto, Josef Frank, Finn Juhl, Eero Saarinen and Poul Kjaerholm.
