Ahlers & Ogletree is pleased to present its Modern & Contemporary Art & Design Auction taking place September 2 & 3.This two-day sale brings together an exceptional selection of 20th and 21st-century fine art, studio glass, sculpture, furniture, lighting, and decorative arts, led by significant works from several prominent estates. Day 2 features several important private collections and estates. At the auction’s core is the Estate of Barbara and Sanford Orkin. Prominent Atlanta philanthropists, collectors, and longtime patrons of the arts, the Orkins assembled a wide-ranging collection of fine art, art glass, sculpture,decorative arts, and design. Among the highlights is Alex Katz's 'Wet Night' (1996), an important large-scale oil on canvas. Highlights also include Lino Tagliapietra's Oca; Dale Chihuly's seven-piece Cobalt and Oxblood Persian Set with Orange Lip Wraps;Harvey K. Littleton's Opalescent Yellow Square pair; and works by Toots Zynsky, Bertil Vallien, Stephen Powell, Dan Dailey, Richard Jolley, Martin Blank, Dante Marioni, Petr Hora, David Bennett, Daniel Clayman, Richard Royal, Tobias Mohl, Sally Rogers, Debora Moore, et.al. Glenna Goodacre's monumental bronze “Wednesday??, tables by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, and sculptural furniture by Pucci de Rossi and Albert Paley. Day 2 also presents several other estates and private collections including turned wood forms by three generations of the Moulthrop family, with more than 50 works by Ed, Philip, and Matt Moulthrop including sculptural vessels, chalices, and large scale bowls in native and exotic woods, the collection celebrates one of Georgia's most important artistic, legacies and the Moulthrop family's enduring influence on American studio craft. Additional important work in wood by John Williams, Mark Bressler,and John Jordan.Additional important art glass including a substantial body of work by Mark Peiser, and again,more notable work by Dale Chihuly, Toland Sand, and Toots Zynsky.
