Attribution and Condition of Lots
Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of any statement as to authorship, attribution, origin, date, age, provenance and condition of any lot whether or not such statement forms part of the description of any such lot. Whether any such statement is made orally or in the catalogue it is an expression of opinion given after careful consideration and research. Each buyer by making a bid for a lot acknowledges that they have satisfied themselves fully as to the attribution and condition of the lot. Expressions and wording relating to the condition are used to briefly describe our opinions of the lots and will not fully list minor blemishes, scratches, small repairs or slight restorations. Bidders are strongly advised to check all lots and all details before bidding. Items can also be viewed prior arrangement with VHA. Potential bidders can contact us by phone or email a day before the start of the auction.
All measurements are approximate.
Dating:
A variety of expressions may be used to describe an opinion of the date(s) of origin attributed to lots offered at auction. An unqualified statement e.g. 'Ancient China' or circa 200-700CE means that in our opinion and of the actual owner of the lot, the lot dates to the mentioned period. The phrase 'Possibly XYZ period? means that in our opinion the lot may date to the mentioned period but there is a strong element of uncertainty in this attribution. The terms 'Archaistic' 'Antique' 'Style' or 'Undated' mean that the lot may be of recent origin, replicating an ancient style or design for decorative purposes. Except when otherwise specified, when no date is offered, the lot may be of mixed dates (e.g. Iron Age, Roman and Medieval items offered together in a single lot) or in our opinion the lot may be of recent origin.
VHA makes no guarantee with respect to age or authenticity, therefore VHA strongly advises potential bidders to do their own research before placing bids.
